The Sustainable Resource Development team within SEACAMS have been involved in a number of projects, some of which include:

  • development of microalgal biofuel productions & carbon sequestration;
  • nutrient remediation in constructed saline wetlands;
  • nutrient flow & carbon budgets in managed wetlands;
  • assessment of impacts of offshore energy installations;
  • evaluation of potential for integrated offshore energy and algal biomass production;
  • valuation of coastal ecosystem goods and services in a range of NW European and tropical contexts;
  • acoustic monitoring and tracking of marine mammals.

Activities cover a broad range of aspects of sustainable utilisation of marine and coastal resources including:

  • ecosystem goods and services; impact of changing environmental conditions upon delivery of ecosystem goods and services;
  • water quality; model carrying capacity of coastal waters and their ability to withstand and recover from climate change and related anthropogenic activities;
  • exploitation & development of renewable energy; marine biofuels, offshore energy;
  • sustainable marine products and food security; create opportunities for secondary processing sectors with access to greater range of marine products.
