  • Mae'r tîm @PrifysgolBangor a @PrifysgolAbertawe yn bwriadu cynnal rhagor o waith gyda'r sector morol Cymru mewn project newydd SEACAMS2.

Want an aid for your business, to show your customers how tidal currents change from place to place, from time to time?

Do you want to be able to show your customers the type of environmental conditions they will be passing through in their kayak or boat or while swimming?

Would you like to be able to demonstrate to your customers the size of eddies and where they are?

SEACAMS can generate movies of tidal currents showing where eddies and fast flows can be found. The movie below is a clip from a numerical model simulation of the Menai Strait. You can see the flow picking up speed, slowing down and changing direction as the tide turns and charging through narrow, shallow passages and slowing down in wider sections (large arrows=large currents; smaller arrows=smaller currents). Higher resolution views of this model can also show you swirling eddies.

The movies are generated using mathematical equations and knowledge of the shape of the sea floor. We use measurements from the sea to validate the movies and make sure they are accurate.

As part of the SEACAMS project, we can provide you with a movie of a location near you to aid your business in describing the local environment to your customers. If you are interested in having a movie made for your company, contact Holly Pelling for more information.
